The Electronic Transactions Association (ETA), the global trade association of the payments technology industry, today announced the next step in its continued growth of government relations activities with the hiring of seasoned financial industry and government affairs professional Patrick Russell as the association’s new Vice President of Government Affairs.
In this position, Mr. Russell will be responsible for executing ETA’s federal legislative and regulatory strategies on behalf of ETA’s more than 300 member companies.
“ETA is delighted to welcome Patrick to lead our federal government affairs efforts at a time of unparalleled innovation in the payments industry and at ETA,” said Jodie Kelley, CEO of ETA. “His experience advocating on behalf of the financial services industry will be invaluable as we expand our advocacy on behalf of the world’s largest and most innovative payments companies. I look forward to working with him.”
Prior to joining ETA, Mr. Russell served as the Director of Government Affairs at the Surety & Fidelity Association of America (SFAA) where he developed and implemented strategic objectives related to SFAA’s legislative, regulatory, and political agenda at the federal level – specifically, he led the execution of strategic public policy, advocacy, communications, and outreach campaigns.
“We are excited for Patrick to join the ETA government affairs team. His knowledge, experience, and expertise will extend ETA’s government affairs reach on Capitol Hill,” said Scott Talbott, EVP at ETA.
“I am thrilled to join ETA during such an exciting time in the payments industry,” said Mr. Russell. “ETA members are leaders in payments technology to merchants and consumers, and it is crucial to have policymakers who champion current and future innovation.”
